The concept of delivering Unit of Measure information as a type grouping can be extended to delivering further logistic information. Therefor this structure is referred to as a Unit of Measure since it annexes these other information types.
A definition to transport Unit of Measure in TradeXML is required to deliver this important information from suppliers to PIMS and from PIMS to trade partners in a structured way.

Unit of Measure Types are designed to fulfil the following criteria:
- PCE: For single product UnitOfMeasure information.
- CAT1: For the carton inner UnitOfMeasure information.
- CAT2: For the carton inner UnitOfMeasure information.
- CAT: For the carton outer UnitOfMeasure information.
- LAY: For the layer UnitOfMeasure information.
- PAL: For the pallet UnitOfMeasure information.
- CON: For the container UnitofMeasure information.
